Data Center Cooling

Raised floor or "dedicated" cooling - Electrical power and/or equipment specifications devoted to cooling equipment for the Data Center Raised Floor space, exclusive of office and support space.

Data Center Equipment Load (forecasted) divided by the Raised Floor area, or the Data Center total load to the total facility area is known as the energy density. The Data Center Equipment Load or total load is inflated by the percentage of currently occupied space electric load (W) per Data Center Raised Floor or total facility area (ft2 or sf) if the Data Center Raised Floor or total facility were fully occupied.

Data Center raised floor cooling factors include many variables, such as:

Static pressure under the floor

Velocity of the cooled air

Distance of equipment enclosures from computer room air conditioners (CRACs)

Obstructions under the floor

Enclosure style in which the equipment is housed

Equipment Density

The most important part of data center cooling varies for local to local but may include preventing over-heating of computer equipment and eliminating heat-related failure, power conservation, prolonging the life of the CRACs.

Even if you get it right initially, vigilance is needed to maintain getting the cool air where it is  most needed.
